Frequently Asked Questions

Is the museum accessible?
Yes, the roundhouse and main galleries are fully accessible. The 1911 turntable can be viewed from ground level, and we have a ramp for boarding the 1928 Daylight Coach.
Can we climb inside the locomotives?
Many of our locomotives, including Engine 1218, have cab access during guided tours. For safety reasons, some smaller switchers are for exterior viewing only.
How long does a typical visit take?
We recommend at least 2.5 to 3 hours to see the main galleries, the restoration shop, and take a ride on the turntable or the coach.
Is photography allowed?
Personal photography is encouraged! For commercial shoots or wedding photography, please contact us for a permit and scheduling.
Are pets allowed?
Certified service animals are welcome. Other pets are not permitted inside the museum buildings or on the train rides.
Is there food available on site?
The Dining Car Café serves light lunches, snacks, and prairie-roast coffee inside a restored 1940s buffet car.
